Thanks for the detailed explanation. Very useful.

Please, youre Welcome

By the way, this is the AMG I showed to an Austria and he said it was a "Zuhälterauto". I just don't see it. It's not even that heavily modified. I think it's pretty classy actually.

That Thing and the 1988 560SEC where typical "Zuhälterautos" in Germany and Austria in the 1980s

And what type of image Mercedes has in Austria? In the UK and USA it's a status symbol. I think in Austria and Germany probably not so much?

In my opinion the normal Mercedes B, C and E Class are boring Grandpa Cars. I think its pretty funy actually as it looks like things are the other way around ;)

Really? But there are only 12 in the world and 2 are in the AMG factory museum, which that picture is from. I think people may be confusing it with another Mercedes. This is a very rare car.

And what about the Mercedes coupes today. How are they seen?

Thanks.

Hi!

This is a 2-door Mercedes. The 190E was never made in a 2-door version was it?

Thanks.

I hope not, though my girlfriend calls mine a porn car, so... there could be some truth in it :)

At least in my Region they are also called "Farmer's Porsche" ...cos they tend to have a Mercedes, older models though.

Basically there is a stereotype for every car you find on our streets, so I wouldn't really bother and drive whatever I like personally.

Its possible that im confusing the Cars as well.

This is hard to answer, I don´t even know the new Models very well. But in comparison to the old 560SEC I think they are boring to as all new Cars look very identical and replaceable.

"Farmer's Porsche", uh! Hahaha. So something like this is seen as a classic, a "Farmer's Porsche" or a "Zuhälterauto"?

As it is a 2-door and based on the rims it would be a pimpmobile :D

Pheww, there are so many...

Audi drivers are generally rude
French cars already rust away in the brochures
Opels are driven by what you would possibly call white trash/are rusty
Mercedes are boring, grandpa cars or some models Zuhälterautos
Fiats have Faults In Every part / For Italians Adequate Technology
Porsche Drivers have a small cock
Asians = ricers
BMWs are driven by turkish people/ Bring Me Workshop
VW Golfs are driven by 18 year old wannabes, loud hi-fi, big muffler tips, wide tires, but stock 60hp
Driving a Mini? Probably hipster, treehugger or gay

it's safe to say that around here you'll be judged or ridiculed for any car that is not a boring mainstream car, so why even care.
only petrolheads will get it and see it for what it really is, something more than just a means of transportation.

I see. I guess I hadn't figured out people's cars are listed on their profiles. That's a cool car no matter what anybody say. A true classic.

So if it had the original Mercedes wheels like this would it be a classic?

Phew! You were not joking! :D

Nothing about Jaguars? How come they are left off the hook?

I guess Alfa, Lancia and Maserati would all be like Fiat?

I have to say some of that makes no sense at all though. Mercedes boring or grandpa? I guess they never heard of an AMG GT or SLS Black Series. Runs with a Viper.

Yes that looks more like a grandpa's car :D

Can't remeber any Jag stereotype, but expensive repairs and spareparts.

Sure many makes have high performance models or "sleeping lions" that nobody would think of... For example a 197x Opel Diplomat V8 was once one the fastest series produced limousine in Europe, a reliable make, then in the 80s the rust problems came with a major loss of reputation, slowly recovering since the millennium. So you see, stereotypes do not really reflect a makes actual situation or models, there is also a heritage. Maybe that also explains why some of the models you mentioned get lost in the shuffle.

And not to forget jealousy: you drive an expensive, fast, special car I can't afford? You sure are a drug dealer or sugadaddy. :p

Only playboys drive Ferrari, gentlemen drives Maserati!

Jag-Drivers meet at the repairshop.

My own opinion: it is important, to driv a non-boring car. No matter, what oher peoples say. It´s your decision and your car.

Haha, which grandpa drives a coupe? :D And the only thing that changes is the wheel but it's enough to change the whole image of the car for them? The people are funny, are they not? :) They will never understand us petroheads.

So I'm getting the feeling there are no classic Mercedes is Austria? They all will have a "bad" stereotype?

I totally agree with you on the jealousy thing. This is what all those stereotypes sound like.

What about Land Rover drivers? What do they say about them? Or SUVs in general? I think I can kind of imagine already. :D

Grant, I agree with you 100%! For us petroheads a car is more than just transport. I guess some will never understand.

But so if somebody doesn't like BMWs and he wants a 2 doors car with rear wheel drive, with a good engine somewhat powerful, manual gearbox and not some sports car like a Porsche, what do you guys recommend in Austria?

I guess petroheads are the same all over the world. Always nice guys.
