car-industry - related employees in Austria: over 50.000 ...
not so bad, isn´t it?

Exactly. And Magna Steyr is the largest independent car manufacturer in the world I believe. ;)

Edit: By make your own cars I didn't mean actually building them. I know Austria builds cars. I meant having it's own car brands. I don't think there has to build Austrian car brands for Austria to have a car culture. Any country can have a car culture. ;)

Sure it's just jokes. But dragging countries into this type of talk is always counter productive. ;)

This is why I've been trying to ask people not do it and not to derail thread. :)

Now we are talking about cars per country instead of what we were talking before. No point.

Ok then guys. Let's get this back on track, please. :)

I came here because I was interested in driving a Firebird or Mustang in Austria. Mainly because I want a 2 doors rear wheel drive car as my everyday car.

But some of you brought up some good points about the problems of driving an imported US car in Austria everyday, with parts being harder to get and also the salt and rust problem. I think they are just not made to withstand that. So maybe a US car is not the best idea for an everyday car in Austria. Specially if it's from the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

So I would like to ask again, what would you recommend that is 2 doors, rear wheel drive, manual gear box and is not too little like a 2 seats sports car, if I don't like BMWs?

Thanks guys!

You mean the rubberized black spray you can get at car shops? Or something more involved?

And they hold up fine against the salt and rust?

How reliable do you find them? How often do you need to work on them?

Thanks.

on the Chevy TS i dont made it - it got "crispy" after 10-12 years.
On my RAM´s it was made by an professional, dont know, what type of material. It was not bad, on the 1st RAM (2010) it lasts over 3 years (and then i changed to the 2014)

No no forget this black spray.

I put my jeep to a specia mechanic guy

1. Cleaning the underbody with hot high pressure water
2. rust protection with "Dinitrol" also in the "Hohlräume"
3. at last he put on a kind of wax

5 years guarantee with inspection every year

No probs with rust or salt

Thanks. By the way, I see in your signature you have or had a Mustang GT ´01? This would be the type of Mustang I would go for. A New Edge. It's one of my favorite shapes in modern Mustangs. Are they hard to find or expensive in Austria? Firebirds don't seem to be expensive, unless Trans Am.

Thanks. And with European cars such as Mercedes you don't need to do this? They already come from the factory protected, correct?

How much does this protection you guys are talking about cost?

Thanks.

I only trust in the protection I made myself, being Fluid Film in the rockers and other hollow parts and a wax based, mostly transparent undercoating. But don't get fooled, this only helps to delay rust, it will come sooner or later. We don't have a metal friendly climate unfortunately....

Hey, that Jeep looks great! Underneath is like brand new. Very well done.

700 is not too bad if it comes with a 5 years warranty.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
