Few prototypes have had so obvious an influence on automotive styling as John DeLorean?s 1964 proposal of an eye-catching Pontiac roadster. The concept foretells both Pontiac Firebird and Chevro-let Corvette styling.

The Banshee?s understated, beautifully proportioned look requires spelling Classic with a capital C. Sitting on a 90-inch wheelbase, the Banshee is four inches shorter than an MG TD. The lines and textures in the grille, the shapely wheel openings in the fiberglass body, and the frameless top of the windshield all leave a lasting impression. Yet this design took several years to become mainstream thinking at General Motors; Pontiac?s earliest production use of it was louvered taillights in the GTO.

John De Lorean war zu diesem Zeitpunkt Pontiac Generaldirektor und wollte den Banshee unbedingt bauen. Er lag aber damals im Clinch mit dem GM Chef Jim Roche, der das Auto bei der New York Auto Show 1966 kurzerhand vom Ausstellungsstand in eine Lagerhalle nach New Jersey verbringen ließ.

In meiner Quelle ist auch noch von einem Ned Nickles als Designer die Rede.....

Bzgl. Designer hab ich jetzt extra nochmals nachgelesen und Alle haben recht!!

Wie bereits von "Monte70" geschrieben war der Designer John De Lorean 1964 Pontiac General Manager. Da Idee und "Grobdesign" von Ihm stammten (um ein Fahrzeug gegen den Ford Mustang aufzustellen) war es Ihm natürlich ein Anliegen den Banshee trotz Ablehnung durch GM durchzuboxen und heimlich zu bauen. So wurde ein Designteam von Ned Nickles, Roger Hughet und Paul Gillan aufgestellt, wobei jedoch der jeweilige Endentscheid immer bei De Lorean lag.

Über den Designer William T. Collins fand ich zwar beim Banshee nichts.
William T. Collins war aber seit 1958 bei Pontiac (hat viel zu tun mit dem ersten Tempest, dem Firebird, GTO und Grand Am) im Designteam, wird also auch sicher mitgewirkt haben.
Das er ein De Lorean Vertrauter war beweist, daß er Präsident der DeLorean Corporation's Automotive Division im October 1974 wurde und dort auch sehr viel Designarbeit ausübte.
